Why Every Hypnotherapist Should Learn How To Record

By | Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Podcast, Recording | No Comments

Why Every Hypnotherapist Should Learn How To Record Consider this, what is one of the most valuable tools a hypnotherapist has? Of course, it’s their voice. Sure, we learn a whole string of techniques and therapeutic approaches in order to offer therapy to our clients however, without the voice to deliver them, we may struggle to get any real form of outcome. It’s our voice that is really our definable tool and one that allows us to do what we want to do successfully. I’m an advocate for every hypnotherapist learning how to record their voice. It is our tool of the trade. It can often be one of the reasons someone may choose to come and see you because they feel that you have the right voice for them. They’ve heard it and they can feel that relaxation immediately. It gives them the confidence that you’re the right therapist for them. For those who are unsure, here are some of the top reasons why you should learn how to record your sessions. Attract new clients Have you been to one of those websites where they offer you a free download in return for your name and email address? This…

Tips To Deal With Anxiety

By | ACT, Anxiety | No Comments

Tips To Deal With Anxiety Or… a review of ‘The Anti-anxiety Toolkit’ by Melissa Tiers I can’t remember exactly when I first began to feel really intense anxiety. I recall thinking that it started very early on when I believed it was a phobia to blood. Many years ago, when I was a child, I passed out after witnessing my brother coming home from a dental procedure and literally recovering on the couch, spewing up mouthfuls of blood. I had gone to the kitchen to make myself a glass of Tang and, next thing I know, I was being awoken with my family surrounding me. I had put my tooth through my lip and ended up back on the chair nursing my own wound. After that, I had always thought the sight of blood would make me pass out and, frequently, it did. Understandably, I had associated the two but as time went on, it became obvious that it wasn’t as literal as what I thought it had all been. Over time, it began to morph and sometimes I would find that I would begin to experience this feeling of anxiety in my body before it translated to the mind…

OUTthink – Scott Brennan – Gay Men and Humour

By | LGBTQI, OUTthink, Podcast, Shame | No Comments

OUTthink – Scott Brennan – Gay Men and Humour The latest OUTthink is an interesting podcast simply because of the fact that we’re handling a topic you may not have thought of before; gay men and humour. More specifically, how gay men are used as the butt of jokes and also how gay men frequently use humour as a form of defence mechanism. It should be noted here that the entire LGBTQIA community are frequently the butt of jokes by the mainstream AND use humour as a defense mechanism (many people do regardless of sexual orientation) however, for the purpose of today’s podcast, instead of trying to be all encompassing, we have focused largely on gay men. It has often been said that humour needs to have an element of truth in order to be funny and that it is a reflection of the society that it comes from. For this reason, laughing with or at the gay and lesbian community can be both something that brings us together as well as something that can bring each of us down in shame and self-loathing. We’ve all bonded over a joke in some cases while being the butt of someone else’s…

Book Review: The Five Second Rule

By | Anxiety, Confidence, Habits, Relationships | No Comments

Review: The Five Second Rule – Mel Robbins “The Moment you have an instinct to act on a goal you must 5-4-3-2-1 and physically move or your brain will make you stop.” There is something so simple about Mel Robbin’s ‘Five Second Rule’ that it would be very easy to dismiss it. Being realistic here, this book could’ve easily been about half the size of what it actually is. The ‘five-second rule’ principle itself is taught thoroughly within one chapter and the remaining 15 chapters are generally made up of explanations, practical uses and testimonials from people who have used it. That would be the advantage of being one of the most booked female speakers globally is that Mel Robbin’s has had the ability to get in front of people… A LOT of people. She is also very vivacious and has one of those personalities where you find yourself thinking, ‘you know what… I wouldn’t mind having a drink at a bar with Mel and just chatting about life.’ There is something infectiously likeable about her and I think that has resonated with the many audiences that she has been in front of over time. Mel begins ‘The Five Second…

‘Recording for Hypnotherapists Workshop’ (The Remix) Returns for 2017 After running SEVEN successful workshops last year, the ‘Recording for Hypnotherapists Workshop’ returns for the first time in 2017. This is a slightly revised and added version to the workshops that ran last year, although the intention is to still keep them small, intimate, hands on, and PACKED full of information. This workshop will teach you how to get the best possible results using the equipment that you already have. By the end of this workshop, you’ll know how to record and edit your scripts, how to work with effects to clean up and enhance your recordings, to add a musical or binaural beat backing, and how to export it so that you can distribute it to your clients. “Tks Lawrence Akers, great workshop, I haven’t had chance to look at anything yet however I am excited to play with it all, hopefully over the weekend. “Can Hypnotherapy Be Performed Over Skype?”

By | Counselling, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy | No Comments

“Can Hypnotherapy Be Performed Over Skype?” What’s the point of having modern technology if we can’t use it in a way that best suits us? Back when I was studying hypnotherapy, I found that many of my fellow students were based all of Melbourne. In one case, even further, out in a regional Melbourne country town called Kyabram (a big hello to Nancy – if you’re out that way, go and see her!). As you can imagine, given the diverse range of approaches and techniques that come with earning a qualification to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist, it was an absolute priority that we all became familiar and comfortable with what we had learned. The vast majority of us worked full time. After a long day at work, the thought of getting into a car and travelling an hour or more to get somewhere and then practice for a few hours just felt impossible. The answer was obvious; we would utilise being online. Provided that we were able to communicate clearly and, as a hypnotherapist, have a clear view of the person we were working with, then we found that these online Skype sessions were extremely beneficial. While it limited us…
