By | LGBTQI, OUTthink, Relationships, Shame | No Comments

OUTthink Is Taking a Quick Break… And Will Be Back Soon! As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to continue to produce a podcast series like OUTthink. Between approaching guests, organising times, recording, editing, uploading and publicising, there is a lot of work involved! With that in mind, OUTthink is taking a short break to make time to record new guests and to get some insightful and engaging content together. We’ve got some awesome guests coming up in the very near future! In the meantime, there is six months of OUTthink to go back over if you haven’t heard them all already. Below are some of the most successful episodes as streamed on Youtube to date! Ep 9 – Brian Madigan – Naked Gay Man Brian Madigan runs Get Naked Guru and this podcast looks at stripping ourselves down to our vulnerable self and being authentic. It is also the one and only video OUTthink podcast we’ve done to date but something that we’re exploring as a more regular format in the near future. Ep 11 – Matthew Cooksey – The Velvet Rage I approached Matthew to do an OUTthink episode on the book, ‘The Velvet Rage’…

OUTthink Podcast Hits 10 Episodes!

By | LGBTQI, OUTthink, Shame | No Comments

OUTthink Podcast Hits 10 Episodes! So, let’s be honest… hitting 10 episodes of a fortnightly podcast isn’t really that big of a deal however it felt like it was time to begin speaking a little bit more about this podcast that I’ve been investing some time and energy into. OUTthink is a podcast aiming to shine a light into some of the mental health and psychological issues that impact on the LGBT community. In my previous posting ‘Why I Created OUTthink‘, I outlined that LGBT folk have a unique relationship with shame during our childhood development. As kids, we knew we were different. We weren’t sure exactly in what way. We definitely couldn’t put a label on it, yet we could feel it and we knew the other kids knew too. As a result, we often allow the toxic effects of shame take impact; creation of the false self, rage, people pleasing, addiction – all common ways to deal with this feeling underneath that we were inescapably flawed and unlovable. As we find out place in ‘the community’, we begin to move more towards dismantling these shame messages and becoming more authentic. OUTthink really aims to both bring topics that…

Release Hypnosis Celebrates It’s Two Year Anniversary

By | Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy | No Comments

Release Hypnosis Celebrates It’s Two Year Anniversary No one knows when they start a small business if it is going to be successful or not. The fact that Release Hypnosis is still going strong two years on is something I’m happy to celebrate. I used hypnosis to make the changes I needed in my life and it began my desire to learn more. Over the past two years, I’ve seen a diverse range of people and helped them to overcome issues that were making life difficult for them. I’ve worked with everything from sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, stress, addiction, OCD, smoking cessation, weight management, virtual gastric bands, nail biting, fear of flying, fear of driving, resolving grief, pain management… you name it, I’ve been asked about it. Even better is that I’ve been able to provide some much-needed niche services to Melbourne. I began running the successful Recording for Hypnotherapists Workshops, helping to teach local therapists skills to provide ongoing support to their clients and to help build their business. I also collaborated on a workshop that explored shame and the impacts it has on our lives. I started OUTthink – a podcast that shines a light onto the mental…

Why It’s Often Still So Difficult To Be Out And Proud

By | LGBTQI | No Comments

Why it’s often still so difficult to be out and proud Elizabeth McDermott, Lancaster University A few months ago, I interviewed a 19-year-old bisexual woman and asked her why she had found it so difficult to “come out”. She replied: “I just had hate coming at me from all sides”. It may seem odd that a young woman living in the UK has experienced hostility because of her sexual orientation. The UK has made many legislative changes to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) equality – such as anti-discrimination laws and same-sex marriage. But although laws have changed, negative attitudes to LGBT people unfortunately still exist. Hate crime towards LGBT people remains a persistent problem in the UK. And new figures compiled by Galop – a LGBT anti-violence charity – show that homophobic attacks have increased 147% in the three months after the Brexit vote. Which suggests the rise in hate crime seen after the EU referendum wasn’t just confined to racism or Islamophobia. Part of the problem is that we live in a world where everyone is presumed to be heterosexual/straight – and as a society we still like to think that everyone fits comfortably into a male…
