How Much Does Hypnotherapy Cost in Australia?

By Counselling, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Therapy

How Much Does Hypnotherapy Cost In Australia? I just want to know how much hypnotherapy costs… Imagine for a moment that you had a medical condition that was causing you enormous discomfort. You phone the doctor and you tell him the symptoms you’re experiencing. He tells you a list of possible causes that could be contributing to those symptoms. You would imagine in order to make a thorough assessment, the doctor would need to begin work and to go the process to assist you. For most people, the immediate question in these instances is, ‘when can I come to see you?’ In most cases when it involves mental health, it is ‘how much is this going to cost?’ Because mental health can often shape our reality, while living with it seems challenging, there almost seems to be more of a tolerance to this kind of mental pain than physical discomfort. When we see our loved ones experiencing mental anguish though, such as anxiety, stress, depression, or mental processes that encourage emotional eating and habitual behaviour, we have to wonder if they’re not being fooled by their own beliefs. So, if you’ve Googled and found this page and simply want to…

How To Use Your Brain’s “Delete” Button

By Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness, OCD, Smoking Cessation

How To Use Your Brain’s “Delete” Button Neurons that fire together, wire together. Back in 1949, Canadian Neuropsychologist Daniel Hebb first used this phrase to describe how pathways in the brain are formed and reinforced through repetition. This means that every experience, thought, feeling, and physical sensation triggers thousands of neurons, which form a neural network. When you repeat an experience over and over, the brain learns to trigger the same neurons each time. Our brain cells communicate with one another via synaptic transmission; one brain cell releases a chemical (neurotransmitter) that the next brain cell absorbs. This communication process is known as ‘neuronal firing’. When brain cells communicate frequently, the connection between them strengthens. Messages that travel the same pathway in the brain over and over begin to transmit faster and faster. With enough repetition, they become automatic. You’ve heard the saying that ‘practice makes perfect’; this is the scientific explanation of why it does. This is essentially how we create those unconscious programs that run who we are; the way we think, the perception we see, the experiences that form the beliefs we hold, and the habits that we do. Of course, this can be used in a…

Maintaining Motivation Now You’re a Non-Smoker

By Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Smoking Cessation

Maintaining Motivation Now You’re a Non-Smoker You’re finally free of that old smoking habit… In this last blog in a series that explores my 5 step D.R.E.A.M. Process that I use to help people reclaim their lives as non-smokers, I explore the fifth and final step, which is all about maintaining motivation and enjoying the benefits that will continue to present themselves day upon day after making the decision to leave that old habit behind. You can read part 1 of this series here, part 2 here, part 3 here, and part 4 here. Step 5: Maintain momentum. Read the following and then do the activity straight afterwards. Close your eyes. Take in a few deep breaths. Notice the body relaxing as you do. Now, allow your mind to wander for a moment and to consider all the positive benefits that you’re going to have as a non-smoker. Start by imagining what the following weeks will be like as you tell your family and friends that you’ve become a non-smoker and notice their positive reactions. Imagine looking in the mirror over the coming weeks and, already, noticing how the skin is looking fresher and you’re looking healthier. Now, take it…

Becoming a Non-Smoker: Establish New Habits

By Habits, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Smoking Cessation

Becoming a Non-Smoker: Establish New Habits The positive intention of that smoking habit Last week, we explored the positive intention of that smoking habit and what benefits it offers you. When I talk to many people about why they continue the smoking habit, I hear all manner of reasons. Some will say that it gives them an opportunity to socialise with other people while some, ironically, will say that it gives them an opportunity to get away from other people. Some people will believe that it relaxes them and helps them to manage their stress, while others have even offered me excuses like ‘sex is always better when you have a cigarette’. I kid you not. Regardless of the reason why you began to smoke, there was some benefit that you received from it so strong and positive that you made the decision that this was a behaviour you were going to commit to as a coping strategy and manage to find the will power and strength to maintain that habit several times throughout the day. That’s pretty impressive, so who says you don’t have the resources available already to flip it around and use those same skills to become…

The Positive Intentions Of Your Smoking Habit

By Habits, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Smoking Cessation

The Positive Intentions Of Your Smoking Habit Continuing the series of articles I’ve written previous forming the 5 Steps To Becoming a Non-Smoker D.R.E.A.M. process, this week we’re exploring the first two steps which are really looking at the positive intentions behind the smoking habit. Step 1: Discover the positive intention of your smoking habit. The first step is to discover the positive intention of your smoking habit. Let me ask you, what are the reasons you have for continuing this smoking habit? This is going to be a good insight into what you’re getting out of it. Think back over the past week; when do you smoke and when do you NOT smoke? Are there any patterns forming? Do you find that you’re going for a cigarette around the same time each day? If so, what is happening around that time? Think back over the course of the day. What triggers are there that tell you that it is now time to smoke? How do you know when it is time to have a cigarette? When you have that cigarette, what happens for you? What do you feel? Where do you feel it? What about those times when you…

The Practitioner’s Guide To Mirroring Hands

By Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Therapy, Uncategorized

The Practitioners Guide To Mirroring Hands Richard Hill and Ernest Rossi For many hypnotherapists who are training, or even continuing their professional development, too often some training can tend to feel the same. Even recently, US hypnotherapist Scott Sandland posted a video where he blasted trainers who claimed to have a training that had ‘never been seen before’, promising ‘miraculous results’ and who were essentially offering what many could see as a magic bullet to dealing with their clients. Instead, in that video, he reminded every hypnotherapist out there about the importance of practice; to explore, refine and practice constantly on everyone from their clients during the day to their teddy bear at night, listening back to recordings made of your practice, watching other people practice. To continue to just show up, be present, observe, learn and become the best we can be NOT from some training that promises the world but from watching, learning, and putting it into practice. This would seem obvious, wouldn’t it? Yet I know so many hypnotherapists, myself included, who can often feel like we don’t know enough and that someone out there (inevitably) knows more. The self-doubt can kick in; ‘why would someone want…

When Your New Year Doesn’t Start The Way You Wanted

By Habits, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Smoking Cessation

When Your New Year Doesn’t Start The Way You Wanted Did your 2019 start off the way you wanted? Do you want your New Year’s Eve back so that you can do it all again? Let me tell you, mine absolutely has not started the way I wanted. Here I am, day 14 of the new year as I sit to type this, only beginning to now feel like my year is starting. After beginning the year with a pinched nerve in my back that left me spending most of it horizontal, the ability to get my year underway has felt like nothing short of being robbed from me. The frustration of not having the start to the year that you hoped for can have such an impact too. Whether it was planning to quit a habit (such as smoking or over-eating) or plans to start a habit (exercising, meditation) when you feel like the year hasn’t provided the right space to achieve that, you can often feel like beating yourself up and downright complaining. Which, to be honest, is what I kind of did. Well, until the past few days anyway. I came to the conclusion that I would…

What Happens To Your Body And Brain If You Don’t Get Sleep

By Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Insomnia

What Happens To Your Body And Brain If You Don’t Get Sleep Are you getting enough sleep? Like most people, I’ve had times in my life when I found it difficult to get a night of proper sleep. There are so many factors that could contribute to it too. I have a couple of cats who don’t always get along, and so I feel the need to have the door open so that one of my furkids (named Sambuca) can come and cuddle up to me and be safe. This often means that I am being woken at all times of the night though, either from a small black animal wanting attention or from breaking up a fight. I have a partner who is a chef and, as a result, gets up at extremely early hours. This inevitably will wake me up too. And even those nights where a concern is weighing heavy on my mind and I’ve found it difficult to be able to allow that thought to be put aside so that I can rest. Even during the festive season, the inevitable invitation to parties and functions can often end up exhausting some people out although if alcohol…
